Subscribe

The easiest way to follow this blog is to subscribe by clicking on this icon up in the toolbar. It will add an interactive bookmark which will automatically update anytime someone adds a new post. This means that you don't have to remember to check back, instead it will just show you when there's something new to look at.

Google: Rome

A new layer on Google Earth shows Rome as it looked when the Roman Empire was at its peak. This seems like it will be very useful to understand just what we're looking at when we see the ruins.

Photosynth: Pantheon

Photosynth is basically the panorama tool that kicked photoshop's ass, a complete 360-degree view of a space in 3d. You'll have to install a plugin to see this, but trust me it's well worth it.

This is a view of our old friend, the Pantheon. I think I'll try to make some of these while I'm over there.

Piranesi

I'm seeing how to add additional authors to the blog, starting with a second me.

For studio, we will be extending some drawings by Giambattista Piranesi, an Italian artist. He's quite famous for his prison etchings, and we'll be using them as a base guide and extending outwards, sort of expanding the view.

These four images are our choices of etchings to use; some of his works are better than others, so we were given specific options. Here are the four images in high enough resolution to be used for our assignment.

Smoking Fire, Lion Bas Relief, Staircase with Trophies, and The Well.

Countdown: 44 days

That's right, 44 Days until I fly out for Rome. Hmm, when I say it that way it seems like quite a while. Well, here's the plan:

March 4 @ 12:50 pm....Fly from Atlanta to New York
March 4 @ 4:20 pm......Fly from New York to Amsterdam

Here I will be flying all night long, arriving at about 6:00 am

March 5 @ 10:25 am....Fly from Amsterdam to Rome

Rome is 7 hours ahead of Auburn, so while it will be just about lunch time for me, it will really be about 7:40 pm. It's okay though, because I'm not sure how much sleep I'll get on the plane, so I don't think the jet lag will last for too long.
